WERQ THE WORLD

WERQ THE WORLD is an intensely intimate docu-series from the white hot center of the global zeitgeist of drag; following ten superstar drag queens as they battle for shower-time in cramped dressing rooms, struggle to be on time for meet & greets, slay their way to the stage in front of ecstatic crowds across Europe, and ultimately reveal themselves in surprising ways along the way.

The series is directed, shot and edited by Jasper Rischen, exclusively for production company World of Wonder's streaming service WOW Presents Plus. The series can be found in its entirety here: https://www.wowpresentsplus.com/werq-the-world

EPISODES

EPISODE 1: AQUARIA

WERQ THE WORLD: AQUARIA follows the superstar winner from the tenth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Aquaria. Fresh off of filming the finale episode of the hit reality TV series, Aquaria joins a cast of seasoned queens for the final weekend of their world tour in Scandinavia. This documentary episode intimately follows the 22-year-old as she adjusts to tour life and to life post Drag Race. Supported by her drag mother and fellow Drag Race winner Sharon Needles, this episode ventures between touching and hilarious as it explores the generation gap between younger and older drag queens in an ever more accepting world where drag has gone from smokey bars in Pittsburgh to mainstream venues around the globe.

EPISODE 2: VALENTINA

WERQ THE WORLD: VALENTINA follows the enigmatic Miss Congeniality (or Fan Favorite) of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9 as she tries to keep up with the fast pace and intense hustle of an international tour. A Los Angeles-born child of Mexican immigrants, Valentina is a self-proclaimed “complex character,” who can sway between being sweet like candy or lashing out in anger. This documentary episode finds a candid Valentina surviving the non-glamour of European flights and riding 13 hour bus rides across the continent, while speaking frank about her long-time struggles with depression. And while her tardiness often upsets older queens along the way, Valentina’s charm ultimately steals everyone's heart as she chases her true purpose in the spotlights of the stage.

EPISODE 3: KIM CHI

WERQ THE WORLD: KIM CHI follows the self-proclaimed “jokester” and “prankster” of the tour as her cooperative nature earns her the title “Employee of the Month” by the production crew, while the other queens name her the “shadiest of all.” In the words of Valentina, Kim Chi has “hyper-galactic shade,” and she indeed trolls her fellow tour mates like no other. Follow Kim Chi as she transforms into Queen Serenity in front of euphoric crowds and bonds with the dancers on 5am ferry rides to Copenhagen.

EPISODE 4: LATRICE ROYALE

WERQ THE WORLD: LATRICE ROYALE takes an indepth look at the ultimate legacy queen as she makes unexpected friendships on the European tour bus and prepares for her high energy number in the show. The seasoned Latrice is “go with the flow” and easy to work with, but also has very little patience for bullshit - a feat that leads to big clashes with her coworkers early on. This intimate documentary portrait reveals painful details of Latrice’s backstory that have not been heard before, and follows her as she triumphs through some of the lowest points of the tour.

EPISODE 5: VIOLET CHACHKI

WERQ THE WORLD: VIOLET CHACHKI takes you into the world of the number one Fashion Diva as she leaves her glamorous world of Moschino fashion shows behind to join her fellow queens in cramped tour busses. Her tough exterior (“I’m not here for anyone else besides me”) softens a little when you get to witness her friendship with Valentina blossom in their shared dressing rooms. Violet tells you more about the origins of her drag persona as she does a photoshoot in Paris and her mind blowingly stunning burlesque and aerial number leaves no mistake: we are dealing with a superstar winner across the board.

Put aside the fabulous dresses, formidable heels, life-giving lip-synching skills, and the ability to delight legions of fans night after night—and the queens of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” are just like you and me. They have their good days and bad, and who they really are is tucked somewhere between the work clothes they show to the world, and the naked truth seen in unguarded moments.

That’s the tasty, oftentimes touching, takeaway, when viewing any given installment of “Werq the World’’ — director Jasper Rischen’s deliciously RuVealing 10-part docu-series, airing weekly on WOW Presents Plus through Aug. 8. - The Los Angeles Blade

EPISODE 6: DETOX

WERQ THE WORLD: DETOX follows the iconic queen on her last show day in Paris, as she prepares to do her epicly sexy number one final time before leaving the tour. The “auntie” of the tour is easily ticked off when other queens are late - and she tries her best to whip them all into shape. Learn more about her backstory as she gets ready behind the stage, and as she tears up describing her relationship with other queens like Latrice Royale. Her grateful attitude (“we are very lucky”) is a breath of fresh air in this cast full of divas.

EPISODE 7: KENNEDY DAVENPORT

WERQ THE WORLD: KENNEDY DAVENPORT brings you into the dressing rooms of the hardest-busting dancing queen of all as she gets ready to be the first number in the show - waking up the crowds like no one else could. Miss Davenport is always trying to reinvent herself, and on this specific tour she chose to be her most authentic self and gives the crowds all the wild and iconic dance moves they were craving for. Kennedy’s hilarious interactions with the camera and strong work ethics make for a funny and intriguing episode showcasing an old-school queen with a inspiring passion for the art of drag.

EPISODE 8: SHARON NEEDLES

WERQ THE WORLD: SHARON NEEDLES follows the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 4 as she makes it clear that she hates being filmed, while at the same time making herself impossible to avoid with her incredible charisma and self-deprecating humor. Not having performed in classic drag shows for many years, Sharon initially struggles with choreography and her outfit reveals, until she finds her spooky groove on the stages across Europe. Behind her sometimes controversial behavior lives an intellectual understanding of the art of drag - making this episode a fascinating watch.

EPISODE 9: ALYSSA EDWARDS

WERQ THE WORLD: ALYSSA EDWARDS needs no introduction. Miss Edwards is the larger-than-life queen who livens up the tour for its electric shows in Spain. Her energy immediately fills the dressing rooms as she gabs along with Valentina, attempts selfies with Shangela, and surprises the manic crowds by starting her number from all the way at the back of the venue - working her way to the stage like only a true superwoman could.

EPISODE 10: THE CREW

WERQ THE WORLD: THE CREW is the ultimate bonus episode. If you for the whole series have wanted to get to know these hot dancers and cute assistants, or just wanted to know more about what it’s really like to work with a cast of such high demanding superstars: the crew behind the scenes of the Werq the World tour will finally spill it all for you. This heartwarming finale episode ends with all queens helping one of the crew members fulfill their drag fantasy in Stockholm and performing a final after party in Stockholm together with Valentina.

EPISODE 11: SHANGELA

WERQ THE WORLD: SHANGELA follows the Queen Captain of the Werq the World tour: no one other than Shangela LaQuifa Wadley. Fresh of her stunning loss in All Stars 3, elated crowds in Europe scream that she was “robbed!” as Shangela fervently opens and hosts the show. The “hardest working bitch in the cut” is the “glue that holds it all together” according to the other queens, and we follow Shangela backstage as she runs between hosting the show and changing rapidly for her own personal number. While her 15-minute Beyoncé medley causes eyerolls from her cast mates, the crowdsurfing genius leaves the crowds gasping for more. And after a long tour day got everyone exhausted - this ultimate party queen will be hitting up the clubs until the break of dawn, with entourages awaiting her in every city.
